Math Teachers Invited - Toyota TIME -

The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics supports Toyota's Investment In Mathematics Excellence (TIME), which provides teachers with grants of up to $10,000 for innovative projects. The program is sponsored by Toyota Motor Sales, USA.
The focus of the program is on individual students and classrooms rather than district-wide projects. Up to thirty-five two-year grants, totaling up to $350,000, will be awarded at three levels:
- Elementary
- Middle
- High School
ELIGIBILITY: Any K-12 classroom teacher with three years' experience teaching mathematics within the U.S., District or Columbia, Puerto Rico, and/or U.S. territory may apply.

Frontline Planner -

Attention High School Teachers:
High school teachers who sign up for the Frontline Planner - a free monthly electronic newsletter about new documentaries from the PBS series "Frontline" and tips for bringing these films to the classroom - will be automatically entered to win a TiVo for their schools.
A e-newsletter is part of the Frontline Teacher Center, a Web site designed to help secondary school and college educators use "Frontline" as a starting point for classroom learning and discussion.
From the pool of educators who sign up for the e-newsletter by March 31, three will receive a TiVo Digital Video Recorder (including lifetime service) for their school, plus $50 Staples gift certificate. Three second prize winners will receive three "Frontline" videos of their choice for their school, plus a $50 Staples gift certificate.

Wal-Mart Foundation -

In celebration of the holiday season, the Wal-Mart Foundation has given every Wal-Mart store up to $5,000 to distribute to local charitable causes.
The new "Holiday Grant" program started Nov. 3 and continues through Dec. 24. Awards can be made to nonprofit, local charities, civic groups, veteran's organizations, public schools and government agencies.

Captain Planet Foundation -

Scope: The Captain Planet Foundation awards grants to support innovative, hands-on environmental education projects for children and youths that will help them build problem-solving skills and environmental awareness.
Deadline: Dec. 31, March 31, June 30 and Sept. 30
Funds: Grants are currently limited to $500 or less.
Eligibility: Tax-exempt organizations, including most schools and nonprofit organizations, are eligible.
Areas: Support goes to innovative programs that empower children and youths around the world to work individually and collectively to solve environmental problems in their neighborhoods and communities. Projects must: promote understanding of environmental issues; involve young people, aged 6 to 18, and help them develop planning and problem-solving skills, take a hands-on approach; promote group interaction and cooperation; include adult supervision; and commit to follow up with the foundation.

Presidential Awards For Excellence In Mathematics and Science Technology (NSF) -

Scope: The National Science Foundation seeks applications for the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST), which recognize exceptional K-6 math and science teachers nationwide.
Deadline: Teachers applying for thi PAEMST must first be nominated by a prinicpal, teacher, student or other member of the general public. Completed teacher applications are due May 1, and must be submitted to the applicable state coordinator.

USA Today All-USA Teacher Team -
November 25, 2003
Scope: National newspaper USA Today seeks 20 excellent teachers (or teacher teams of no more than four) to make up the 2004 All-USA Teacher Team.
Deadline: June 30, 2004.
Funds: Each of the 20 winners' schools receives $2,500 to use in instruction -- $500 for each teacher and the remainder to the school for use as designated by the teacher(s) -- and will be featured next October in USA Today.
Eligibility: Currently active, full-time, certified K-12 teachers and instructional teams with at least four years of experience at a public or private school in the United States or its territories. A teacher or instructional team may be nominated by anyone, including students, former students, parents, colleagues, staff members or administrators. Self-nominations are not accepted. An instructional team is a group of no more than four teachers assigned to collaborte to plan, teach and evaluate the same group of students. Teachers who team-teach a course are eligible, but those who teach individually and work together only on special projects or programs are not.
