The Technological Research & Development Authority (TRDA) seeks participation from traditional and non-traditional teacher training entities, including public and private universities, museums, professional development experts, research installations, large and small businesses, aquariums and zoos, not-for-profit organizations, for-profit organizations, and individuals to participate as course providers for The Endeavour Academy. The professional development programs presented through the Academy will provide practical math, science, reading and technology content, with a focus on specific topics taught by professionals and researchers using engaging, hands-on techniques. The Endeavour Academy will offer workshops for K-12 teachers that result in the use of innovative hands-on teaching methods and materials.

The program goal is to assist schools in the development and retention of teachers and enhance student interest and performance in science, mathematics, reading and technology disciplines by:
  • Expanding the mathematics, science, reading and technology knowledge base of K-12 teachers
  • Introducing teachers to industry examples of math, science, reading and technology theories and practices
  • Providing materials and instruction in the use of innovative and hands-on methods of teaching mathematics, science, reading and technology
  • Supplying teachers with turnkey systems to use in the classroom
Selected workshop providers will be included in The Endeavour Academy catalogs. This is an ongoing solicitation to develop year round Academy offerings. All workshops will be marketed directly to teachers, school district staff development professionals, and schools.

This is not a grant program. Workshop providers will offer programs through The Academy and receive compensation based on contracted rates and costs. The Endeavour Academy will provide financial support to participating teachers and school districts to ensure that they have access to the quality programs offered through the Academy. Depending on the course costs, materials requirements and other incidental costs, support may include reduced course rates, stipends, and materials for use in the classroom.

The Academy will administer registration, marketing, bookkeeping and workshop assessments. Cash and in-kind matches on the part of providers are strongly encouraged. Workshop providers are welcome to engage in marketing activities, however, marketing materials must be approved by the Academy and those costs will not be covered through the contract with The Endeavour Academy.

The Endeavour Academy seeks to provide teachers and school districts with a measure of confidence in the training programs that are offered through the Academy, and therefore encourages submission of only high-quality, innovative programs. The Academy provides certain resources for distance learning and computer-based courses through partnerships. Workshop sites may vary. Participants are welcome to use facilities at school districts, those made available through the Academy, or workshopspecific sites of their choosing. To discuss programs or concepts and gauge their relevance to the Academy or to inquire about available resources, please contact Diane Matthews, Director, at 321-269- 6330 or via email at dmatthews@trda.org

Workshop proposals will be evaluated on quality of curriculum, innovation, appeal to teachers, practicality of implementation and assessment, and relevance to Sunshine State Standards for mathematics and science. (The complete Sunshine State Standards are available at www.firn.edu/doe/menu/sss.htm). The Academy seeks to develop a catalog of quality, hands-on courses for teachers in the areas of math, science, reading and technology that will be offered throughout the year. Programs receiving positive assessments will be renewed for subsequent years.

Selection
Workshops will be selected on the merits of the professional development program as described in the proposal submitted to The Endeavour Academy. Reviewers will gauge the relevance, potential effectiveness and appeal of the course; the qualifications of the proposing organization; and the costeffectiveness of the program according to the complete and concise information provided in the proposal. Applicants are strongly encouraged to adhere to the proposal outline provided.
